POWER SPEECH
|
How is power obtained?
Power is obtained by being empathetic.
Power is the capacity or ability to direct or influence the behavior of others or the course of events. To us, this means somebody has control over how others act or feel about someone or something by influencing them. To acquire power, it takes a lot more than money and charm. In order for somebody to obtain power, they need to be empathetic. It is crucial to be thoughtful of other individuals points of views, feelings, and lifestyles. They also need to consider the necessities of their audience. People are not going to follow somebody who is selfish and is only taking actions that will result in an outcome that only benefits that one person. Consider this in your own personal life. When was the last time you supported somebody who made all of their decisions selfishly and didn’t once consider how it would impact others? For example, think about your mom, dad, or whoever takes care of you. They have the power to influence your everyday decisions because they have been the ones who have been there for you and kept you safe, so you trust most of the advice they give you. Another example includes Barack Obama and Obamacare. Obama made this system to help the lower and middle class find a more affordable option for healthcare and other benefits. People were fans of this because they felt like they were being helped and cared for, and this gave Obama a lot of power. He considered the needs of his audience and searched for a solution, and now he is one of the most loved presidents ever elected. Many may think that money is the golden ticket to obtaining power, but why? Money can buy lots of shiny objects, but it can’t buy mindsets. Society thinks as a collective, and most decisions these days are based off of what will benefit the most people, hence the saying “majority rules”. By being empathetic, people will have a desire to follow what seems right.
